Whether you've been digging yourself out of the snow or enjoying a sunny day in the seventies, I hope February has been a productive woodworking month and your tools are treating you well!  On this penultimate day of the Olympics, Timberwolf Tools has a couple of price updates to share, a frequently asked question to answer, and a handy tip that will hopefully save you some time.

Mafell Annual Price Increase

First, we wanted to give everyone a 10-day heads up on Mafell’s annual price increase:  on March 1st most prices are expected to go up by about five percent.  Overall I’m impressed that it’s not higher given the rising cost of materials these days—all of our suppliers have done a terrific job keeping their prices as low as possible during the pandemic.  Keep us posted if you need a quote before the end of the month.

Makita 100-Grit Brush Sale

Makita 9741 Wheel Brush SanderNot all prices are going up however:  100-Grit Nylon Brush Wheels for the Makita 9741 Wheel Brush Sander are on sale for a limited time!  While the 80-Grit and Wire Wheels work faster, the 100-Grit is the brush of choice for the pros who purchase many brushes at a time.  A beautiful raised-grain look and typically longer-lasting durability on the bristles, now at the best price.  Stock up!

Which Duo Doweler is Better?

This is one of the most common questions we are hearing, since Mafell offers two different Duo Dowel Systems for cabinet joinery.  Usually you get what you pay for in life—so more expensive means better, right?  Not always!  About 90% of our customers actually prefer the LESS expensive DDF 40 because it can do everything the DD40P can do except use the largest 16mm (~5/8") Drill Bits (which are rarely used).  The DDF 40 can go up to 12mm (~1/2") Drill Bits which are plenty strong for dowel joints, and it features many other advantages such as a flat bottom for easy end grain drilling:

The older DD40P draws slightly more amps than the newer DDF 40 (8.3 amps vs. 7.8 amps) but the bigger difference is the speed of the bits:  13,500 rpm for the Powerful DD40P compared to 8,000 rpm for the Flat bottom DDF 40.  If you are drilling into Oak every day, then the DD40P is your friend.  Otherwise, you would probably be better off with the DDF 40.

Just keep in mind the DDF 40 comes with 6mm (~1/4") and 8mm (~5/16") Drill Bits, whereas the DD40P comes with 8mm, 10mm (~3/8") and 12mm Bits (ergo the higher price).  So you may need to add more bits (sold individually) to your order.  5mm (~3/16") Bits are the most popular, such as for shelf pins along with the 2.6’ Drilling Template accessory.  Even if you add 10mm and 12mm Bits to your order, the DDF 40 is nearly the same price as the DD40P!

Timberwolftools.com Tip

We use our own website every day at Timberwolf Tools, not just to reach customers through the internet, but also as an intranet resource to quickly check tool specs and build out quotes.  There is no faster way to calculate a precise Timberwolf quote than to add items to your shopping cart, click VIEW AND EDIT CART in the upper-right corner of your browser, and click Estimate Shipping and Tax.

Here’s an important time-saver:  if you quickly click Add to Cart buttons on our site, you can add multiple items to your cart without having to go back and forth between the cart and tool pages.  Let’s say you are looking at Mafell P1cc Jigsaw Accessories and want to add a pack of Splinter Guards, the Tilting Base, and a pack of W1, W+P2 and W3 Blades.  Quickly click each of the five Add to Cart buttons one after the other (you have about 1 second in-between each click) and all five will appear in your shopping cart!  If you double-click or triple-click a particular Add to Cart button, it will send two or three of the item to your cart.  If you want to quickly empty your cart, do the same thing by quickly clicking the small red X buttons in the cart.

And if you want to compare two or more shopping carts at the same time, just use different browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari:  each can have a different Timberwolf Tools cart running at the same time.  Happy shopping!

We’ll let you get back to championship curling.  Stay warm!
