Keeping you up-to-date on tariff developments:  NO PRICE INCREASES YET!  Mafell is committed to maintaining their current prices in the USA through September 30th.  Depending on how trade deals play out, a price increase may be applied in October.  Makita USA is also doing their best to hold prices steady, but will likely be increasing prices in August due to rising import costs.

In light of this news, we recommend placing any orders sooner rather than later!  And know that behind the scenes our suppliers are doing everything they can to absorb costs when possible so that American woodworkers continue to have access to the very best tools.

Tools that Dovetail with Your Project Needs

There is only one router powerful and accurate enough to create 1" deep dovetails in big timbers:  Mafell’s Revamped LO 65Ec which just landed stateside after much anticipation!  So if you have access to 240 volt power, the ARUNDA Dovetail System should be near the top of your tool wishlist.  This all-in-one dovetailing setup creates both the mortise and tenon, quickly producing extremely strong wood joints with minimal storage and experience required.  Because of the significant material cost savings, we have customers who pay for these systems in a matter of months just making pergolas.  And many veteran timber framers use ARUNDA on every project for their rafters and joists.

Don’t let the simplicity of the system fool you:  the jigs are made of 100% galvanized steel (not bendy aluminum like the knockoff brands) and the large router bit produces self-tightening dovetails up to 1” thick (26mm).  And yes, the 3.5 horsepower Mafell LO 65Ec Hand Router running at 18,000 rpm is the only router in the world that can handle ARUNDA’s workload.  Here’s a video from Slovakia showing many complex joining techniques now made easy:

And here's what our USA customers are saying:

"Fast, Accurate, Beautiful!  The ARUNDA Dovetail System combined with the Mafell LO 65Ec Router cuts dovetails so fast and accurate it will make you smile every time.  Hands down one of my favorite tools!"
-Cody Marks, Clancy, Montana

"ARUNDA's dovetail system has been a dream to work with.  I love installing our rafters and joist applications when using the dovetail system—makes life easy and accurate."
-B.J. Pendleton, Preston, Idaho

"The ARUNDA dovetail system has truly improved our dovetail capabilities.  It impresses our Owners, County Code Enforcers and the Engineers we work with."
-Roy Decker, Lampe, Missouri

Selecting the Right ARUNDA System For You

Here are the ARUNDA jig sizes that North American customers have preferred historically:

  •  120N Jigs:  43%

  •  80N Jigs:  33%

  •  50N Jigs:  11%

  •  Other B Jigs:  13%

As you can see, the “N” versions that tilt +/- 50 degrees are the most popular, so those are the ones we stock.  They can make perfect 90° joints just like the “B” versions, but also angled joints which are especially useful in roofing applications:

To decide between the 120N, 80N and 50N systems, the key numbers to consider in the following table are the minimum widths of your timbers and maximum weights that each joint can hold:

The 120N usually wins thanks to its maximum of 3,630 lbs supported per joint (important for those roofs holding lots of snow).  But sometimes timber framers and pergola builders need to make dovetails on timbers thinner than 4-3/4" so they will opt for the smaller 80N or 50N sizes.

Note you can make custom larger or smaller dovetails as needed with the 120N or 80N jigs since the bottom of the dovetail jig shape is flat (make half of your dovetail, manually move your jigs over, and complete the other half) but this can be time-consuming to repeat for every male/female, so it’s best to select an ARUNDA size where the standard jig shape works for nearly all your projects.

Ordering ARUNDA is easy:  simply visit Timberwolf’s ARUNDA Page, click Customize and Add to Cart, select your Jig Model, and click Add to Cart.  This will give you everything you need to get started:  your ARUNDA Complete Jig Set, Clamps, Blades and Mafell Router.

Once you have your ARUNDA system up and running, you can later add a different size by ordering just the Jigs & Expansion Plate.  We do our best to keep the important replacement parts in stock, and usually Reversible Blades (sold in 5-packs) are the only ongoing consumables needed.
